Cermak Health Services (CERMAK) provides healthcare to the detainees at the Cook County Department of Corrections. The Correctional Chief of Dental Services is the clinical dental health authority for the Cook County Correctional Center. Provides structure and guidance for dental services delivered to detainees incarcerated within the Cook County Correctional facilities, ensuring that the provision of dental services is in compliance with court mandates, State and Federal Regulations, and is consistent with community standards, legal mandates, and strategic goals. Provides 24/7 on call coverage for clinical and administrative issues. Responsible for dental services at Cermak Health Services.
This position is exempt from Career Service under the CCHHS Personnel Rules.
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental program is required.
Current License to practice Dentistry in the State of Illinois is required.
Current Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Agency License is required.
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification is required.
Two (2) years of professional healthcare management experience to include clinical, administrative, and direct staff supervision is required.
Prior experience working with Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Justice (DOJ), and National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) requirements is required.
Prior experience with electronic health record and electronic dental records is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, and/or Business Administration from an accredited college or university.
Experience in corrections, public and/or community health
National Committee on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Other Characteristics
Thorough knowledge of the principles of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry and oral surgery
Knowledge of State of Illinois Dental Practice Act and Standards of Care relevant to the practices and administration of the position duties
Must be knowledgeable of all OSHA, DOJ and NCCHC requirements
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
Knowledge and experience using and electronic health record to include and electronic dental record
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
Ability to apply modern methods and practices of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry and oral surgery
Ability to relate in a respectful, professional, courteous and concerned manner with clients, co-workers and supervisors
Ability to be culturally sensitive to clients/patients and staff
